“Chess problems demand from the composer the same virtues that characterize all worthwhile art.”
– Vladimir Nabokov
The elements of a composition move across the page like pieces on a chess board. One comes forward, another falls back, and the balance changes around them. I’m interested in that moment when a small decision changes the way everything else is seen. Image, type, scale, and space each carry their own gravity. I can let one take control, quiet another, and feel the composition reorganize around the choice. I make sure instinct and reason arrive at the same solution.
Let’s play and see where the next move takes us.
